Internships

What is a Supported Internship?

Supported internships are a structured, work-based study programme for 16 to 24-year-olds with SEND, who have an education, health and care (EHC) plan. The core aim of a supported internship is a substantial work placement, facilitated by the support of an expert job coach.

Supported Internships are unpaid.

They include a study programme put together to give each student the training, support and work skills they need to help them get a job. Most of your time is spent in the workplace. Your employer gives you work experience and training so that you can learn the skills needed for work.

You may also have the chance to study for qualifications and other training as part of a personalised study programme that helps you to be ready to apply for paid work.

  • Length of the programme: one year (minimum is 6 months)
  • Progression: Interns are supported to apply for paid employment
