RIASS Newsletter - October 2021

Hello and Welcome to the October Newsletter from RIASS. We hope that you have had a restful summer and that the return to school has been smooth. RIASS has remained busy throughout the summer and have provided information, advice and support to over 40 new families since July and continue with on-going support to many more. We have also started a piece of work around the collection of evaluations and the closing of cases. You may have been contacted by us.

If you know of any other families who would like to be included in the service’s newsletter and/or email list then please let the service know and we will add them. They do not need to be known to the service. Our newsletter and emails currently reaches over 600 people. Please also let us know if you would like to be removed from our emails and newsletter mailing list.

RIASS has been asked to share some information from London Borough of Redbridge on Transitions and Saturday Clubs. Please see below for more information

As with any services that RIASS informs you of, we are not endorsing these services, but informing you of them. It would be for yourself to make contact and see if these are suitable for your child/young person or yourself to attend.

The service’s phone line remains closed due to lack of staff capacity at present. You are able to leave a voicemail on the phoneline’s message service which is checked regularly. You can also email the service direct riass@redbridge.gov.uk. Or visit our Website www.redbridgeiass.org.uk

The service has 10 working days to respond to your messages and emails but we aim to return contact within 5 working days. If you do not hear from us within the 5 working days we would advise you to recontact us.

Just for Kids Law

RIASS has seen an increase in referrals for information, advice and support around exclusions. Staff have attended training with Just for Kids Law charity which has enabled us to provide more information, advice and support to families. We have also informed families of this service and some families have made contact direct with them gaining further in-depth support. We would always ask for you to contact RIASS first for information advice or support around exclusions.

Please do be aware of other organisations that charge a fee for support around exclusions. We have found a few families who have paid for support and no work has been provided. RIASS should always be the first point of call for families facing these concerns within Redbridge.

RIASS Evaluations and Closing Cases

We have been doing a piece of work on the collection of evaluations from cases we have closed. You may have been contacted. RIASS closes cases on our database if no contact has been made in the last 3 months. You can still contact RIASS at any time in the future for any new or ongoing information, advice and support. We close cases after this time in line with GDPR.

You should receive an email letting you know that we are closing your case and asking for an evaluation form to be completed.

The completion of the evaluation helps the us to develop and shape our service so that we can support you better. We are also asked to feedback to DfE on the impact our service has had on Redbridge families and evaluations are endorsed by them.

We now have a new and easier way of giving us your feedback, whether it is regarding our service or our training. You can complete this at anytime even if you are still receiving information, advice, or support from RIASS.

RIASS Parent Information Sessions

The information sessions provided by RIASS will be available to book from October. We have a few new sessions and have updated the current sessions. These sessions will continue to be online as the take up on attendees to the sessions has increased by over 75%. We will advertise the sessions as soon as these have been confirmed.

RIASS Steering Group

Thank you for the applications we have received from parents wishing to join our steering group. We will be reviewing these shortly. There has been a delay in arranging our next Steering Group meeting but will make contact with you next month if you have shown an interest in joining.

Social Media

Are you following us on social media? Don’t forget to check our RIASS Facebook page or RIASS website for more updates.

We also have a YouTube channel. This is still in the early stages of development but contains some useful videos for Young People, including our “ Keeping your Money Safe Online” training. You can go on to YouTube and search “RIASS” or click on our link RIASS YouTube

We welcome any feedback on the new Channel whilst we develop this and please let us know which videos would be useful for you to see.
