Redbridge SEND Team update Sep 2020

To improve the services we offer, we have made some changes within our statutory SEND teams which will come into effect from 1st September 2020.

The SEND Assessment Team currently works with Children and Young People (CYP) from 0 to the end of year 10. From September this will become the SEND Assessment 0-13 Team and will work with CYP up the end of Year 8.

The SEND PFA (preparing for adulthood) team currently works with CYP from Year 11 upwards. From September this will become the SEND PFA 14-25 Team and will work with CYP from Year 9 upwards.

Both teams will continue to provide a high quality service to vulnerable CYP and their families, supporting and co-ordinating the statutory assessment processes, producing high quality EHC plans and supporting ongoing cases via annual/interim reviews in order to resolve complex issues and support the achievement of positive outcomes.

These changes will enable our SEND Assessment 0-13 service a greater capacity to provide support in a timely manner, looking at early intervention to improve the support for CYP at the earliest opportunity in conjunction with internal and external colleagues.

The changes within the SEND PFA14-25 team will then enable us to begin having discussions around CYP’s ambitions and future options in a more proactive way, providing a more cohesive multi-agency approach as we support them in line with the Preparing for Adulthood agenda (PfA) and achievement of smoother and more successful transitions into adult life.

What does this mean for your child?

Children in year 9 will transfer immediately to the SEND PfA team from the 1st September 2020. Your child’s case will be allocated to a new co-ordinator within the PFA team who will continue to support them for the remainder of school and into further education, employment or training, utilising the specialist skills and knowledge within the team.

Your new allocated Education Health and Care Coordinator will be in touch with you soon to introduce themselves and outline the support available within the SEND PfA team.
